Speech & Media Studies 3235: Intercultural Communications - Peru

Earn 3.0 credit hours with this faculty-led study abroad program to Peru. During your visit to Peru, you will examine the range of human experiences and its impact on the communication process. Your trip will include tours of Lima, Cuzco, Machu Picchu, Lake Titicaca and more.

Dates: January 1-14, 2019

Location: Peru

Credit Hours Earned: Three (3) Credit Hours (Speech and Media Studies 3235 Intercultural Aspects of Indigenous People)

Costs: In addition to college tuition for the 3.0 credit hours, you will have to pay the following fees:

  • $5,090 paid directly to Education First (EF) College Study Tours. This fee includes round-trip airfare and all in-country accommodations and transportation for the 14 day stay.
  • $365.90 paid directly to Missouri S&T. This fee is for insurance and travel registry. This fee cannot be charged to your student account.

Airfare and in-country accommodations are being arranged thru EF College Tours.  You must enroll with (EF) College Study Tours by Sept 27, 2018.

EF College Tours may consider late registrations after this date, subject to space availability, and requirement of $120 late enrollment fee, in addition to the full tour fee.

When submitting enrollment to EF College Tours, it is important that you provide your complete name as shown on your Passport.  If you do not have a passport, provide your full name (first, middle and last) as it will be requested. Submit application for passport immediately.

$365.90 - Missouri S&T Deadline October 1, 2018

S&T requires enrollment in the university’s international heath and travel insurance programs.  All students who travel internationally as part of their class must have these insurances.  The office of Professional and Continuing Education (PCE) will purchase policies on your behalf.

PCE will also ensure you are registered for 3.0 hours of academic credit for SP&MS 3235.   Since class is held during semester break, the standard campus schedule cannot be followed.  PCE will process class registration on your behalf.  When officially registered, your student account will be charged your standard tuition for 3.0 hours of academic credit for the Spring 2019 semester.

       Bring registration form, passport and $365.90 required payment to Missouri S&T PCE office. 
      This fee cannot be charged to your student account.

3.   Required study abroad orientation – mid-November (specific date/time TBA)
      All students registered in this class is required to participate in an orientation/informational meeting conducted by S&T’s International Affairs office.

Cancellation Policies:

Missouri University of Science and Technology reserves the right to cancel its programs in the event of insufficient registrations, instructor illness, severe weather, or natural disaster. In the event of cancellation, registrants will be notified immediately.

Persons wishing to cancel their registrations must do so in accordance to EF guidelines:
  • September 27, 2018 - $760 cancellation fee ($95 non-refundable deposit; $165 travel insurance; $500 cancellation)
  • September 28, 2018 – November 17, 2018 – 50% refund
  • After November 17, 2018 – no refun
