The Lean Green Belt short course is an in-depth dive into the understanding of lean enterprise principles and how to apply them within your organization. Upon successful completion, you will receive the Lean Green Belt certification. You must pass the qualifying exam to receive the certification, which is valid for three years. 

The course will be offered online. Attendees will be awarded 2.1 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for the entire course.

Course Overview

Dr. Beth Cudney presentation provides a brief overview of lean tools, course objectives and how you can become certified through this IISE Lean Green Belt Short Course.

Your lean journey begins with a series of interactive simulations that demonstrate how each lean concept is applied and its impact on the process. Mapping the process flow and identifying the activities that add value from the customer's perspective is the cornerstone of this class.

The class is then given a scenario and the students simulate the conversion from traditional to lean in a practical, hands-on environment. The course also provides a structure for how to manage a lean process for continuous improvement. Participants will learn how to structure their organizations to support and continuously improve a lean process. Participants will also fully understand how to implement 5S within their plants and how to begin reducing setup time using the SMED process

Lean and Six Sigma training in coordination with my college education has offered a valuable opportunity for me to advance my working knowledge of industry best practices. Having recently earned my Green Belt certification, I feel fully confident that I will be able to return to my place of employment with a greater understanding of quality management and the techniques that best support our organization’s goals.

What You Will Learn

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

Individuals who complete the course earn 2.1 CEUs from the Institute of Industrial & Systems Engineers (IISE). Individuals who complete all of the course requirements AND pass the qualifying exam will receive the IISE Lean Green Belt certification. This certification is valid for three years and may be renewed by logging on to There is a $25 fee to cover administrative costs associated with the renewal. Lost certificates may be replaced using the same online process.


Missouri University of Science and Technology reserves the right to cancel its programs in the event of insufficient registrations, instructor illness, severe weather, or natural disaster. In the event of cancellation, registrants will be notified immediately, and all registration fees will be refunded in full.

Business Data Analytics

Dr. Elizabeth Cudney is a professor in business data analytics at Maryville University, in Saint Louis, Mo. Prior to that, she was an associate professor of engineering management and systems engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology for seven years. She received her bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from North Carolina State University, master of engineering in mechanical engineering and an MBA from the University of Hartford, and doctorate in engineering management from the University of Missouri-Rolla. In 2018, Dr. Cudney received the ASQ Crosby Medal for her book on Design for Six Sigma. Dr. Cudney received the 2018 IISE Fellow Award. She also received the 2017 Yoshio Kondo Academic Research Prize from the International Academy for Quality for sustained performance in exceptional published works. In 2014, Dr. Cudney was elected as an ASEM Fellow. In 2013, Dr. Cudney was elected as an ASQ Fellow. In 2010, Dr. Cudney was inducted into the International Academy for Quality. She received the 2008 ASQ A.V. Feigenbaum Medal and the 2006 SME Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineering Award. She has published nine books, over ninety conference papers and eighty journal papers. Dr. Cudney is a certified Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt. She holds eight ASQ certifications, which include ASQ Certified Quality Engineer, Manager of Quality/Operational Excellence, and Certified Six Sigma Black Belt, among others.
